I thought it would be a good idea to share with you how the Smart Income Detective Blog performs on a monthly basis. Not only may something like this interest you, but it will help me keep super focused and drive me on to improve the site month on month. Included is a visitor report, income report and what is coming up next month.
How it is Broken Down
Below is the timeline split into months. There are 4 entries for each month:
- VISITORS: The total number of UNIQUE visitors to site according to Google Analytics
- EARNINGS: Blog Income Report – the total amount of revenue directly made by this site (through affiliate commissions and sales)
- TIME SPENT: From the start of the blog, I thought it would be a good experiment to record how much time I had been putting into the blog.
- NOTES: Anything noteworthy that is worth a mention will be here.
Some of these blog statistics will be particularly interesting to a newbie (how much time does it really take to start a blog, how much money does it cost etc.) or even if you are in a similar position to me, compare notes.
August 2013 Blog Income Report & Statistics
Visitors: 2541 (Last month: 2151)
Earnings: $844.47 / £544.99 (Last month: $301.50 – approx £198.56)
Time Spent: 21 hours
Notes: Doesn’t time fly when you are having fun!
I cannot believe I am filing my 7th income report from The Smart Income Detective Blog. It doesn’t seem like two minutes ago that I was finalising my plans and going through the inevitable self doubt stage before actually launching the blog.
So what have I been doing this month? Well, OptimizePress 2.0 was finally released, you can see my full video review right here. I have also spent a little time on the affiliate review site I am creating especially for the SID blog – admittedly I just haven’t spent anywhere near the time I initially planned on the site, but you can check the progress here.
I also wrote a fairly lengthy post on my first tentative steps into the world of podcasting. I haven’t got a podcast for the blog yet, but will have in the near future. It is something that excites and daunts me in equal measures, but is something that I am willing to invest time and money in.
Below, you will see the stats for visitors and income earned from the blog. This month, again, both figures are up. But, something else happened this month, something that made me sit up and think. It was more important than the number of visitors, more important than the earnings.
Other bloggers started connecting with me.
Yep, other bloggers reached out and connected through email, comments on posts and even social media. One in particular was a great guy called Jay Samson. He runs an excellent little site that explores earning money online with surveys. You can read the post and mini interview I did with Jay here.
Another super month. 2541 visited the blog this month. Thank you to each and every one of you. YOU are the ones who drive me to create the very best content that I possibly can. It has been pointed out to me that I should only count unique visitors, but I like to use the total amount of visits, because it offers a true number of the amount of times people have come to the blog. Here is this months Google Analytics screenshot:
Earnings from the blog this month have been simply sensational.
Nearly $850 this month.
Way beyond any expectations that I had. And there is no great big secret here.
I am simply writing about what I love, and sharing everything I know, for free.
And guess what? I am LOVING every single minute I spend creating content for the blog. I am loving the different people I am connecting with, loving your emails and comments, and loving being some sort, in fact, any sort of help to you in your own goal of creating a smart income online.
One thing I do want to add before giving the breakdown. I realise that some people will look at the income and they won’t bat an eyelid. But I realise that most people will look at it and say that if this was their blog, such an income would be LIFE CHANGING.
I found this out when I made a fatal mistake when connecting with someone through email. They couldn’t wait for my income and stat report, and asked how it was going – it was around the 20th August. My reply was flippant, although it wasn’t deliberately flippant. I responded with the visitor figures, and gave the earnings to date on the 20th. Before I put the earnings (which was about $625 at that point) I said ‘…hardly life changing, but it stands at around $625′.
The reply really humbled me. It simply read ‘I am sorry Richard, even $100 would be life changing for me in my present situation’.
This made me stop in my tracks. And made me think very hard about what I have achieved, and what the blog has achieved in 7 months. Because I believed that most people were seeing far more success than me. Then it hit me.
Most people are not seeing anywhere near this level of success, and if they are, it has taken them far longer than 7 months.
And it taught me one, HUGE lesson. If I can help EVEN one of you, to earn $100 a month, from your own product, affiliate site, blog, or whatever online method I talk about and detail on this blog, and it improves your life, then I am doing something right. And again, I reiterate: this blog is actually NOT about the money. If the blog made $0 next month, would it still be here, would I still be posting? HELL YES! This blog is an outlet where I can talk, I can muse, I can share what I have done in an area that gives me a lot of enjoyment. I genuinely want to help people, and if I can do that, then what I am hoping to achieve here, is working.
The money earned from this blog really is secondary to anything else. And I want you to take that one thing away today. When I set up the blog, I had no targets of earning X amount by this time, Y amount by that time. I just wrote about my passion and tried to help. Exactly the same can be said for my eBook and membership site.
My only intention was to provide a resource. To provide help. To provide guidance. To provide my experiences. To show my mistakes. To show how I do things. And to hopefully help YOU earn money online, like I do through my eBook, my membership site and my affiliate sites.
I have NEVER chased the money. I have set out to HELP people. And the money has chased me. And there is ABSOLUTELY no reason on this earth why you cannot do something similar, in your field of expertise or passion.
Set out to help people. Do NOT set out to make money.
Please, please. Take that away from this blog today. Even if you never visit it again.
See the proof for this months blog earnings below, in the order as above:
This month I haven’t purchased anything for the blog – I did purchase OptimizePress 2.0 but that is for my sales pages, squeeze pages and membership sites, and not really used on the blog (as yet, anyway).
On going costs:
Aweber* ($29 approx £19) – Super easy to use email service to stay in touch with my subscribers.
BlueHost* – I paid 3 years upfront at $180, so this equates to under $5 a month (approx £3.27 a month).
Next Month On The Blog…
In September, I will have updates on where I am with my podcasting journey as well as an update (hopefully) on what I am doing with the affiliate review site.
I will be also working on a free giveaway for my loyal subscribers, as a thank you for subscribing to the SID blog. This is long overdue. I have a few ideas on what I would like to do, I just need to firm them up and then take action.
There will also be some new tutorial videos, specifically covering Aweber and using FTP.
And that should be it. I have decided that less means more. I know that sounds like it’s the wrong way round, but what I mean is this; I would rather post 4-5 high quality, thorough blog posts throughout a month, rather than do 10 where the quality is not so good. I think this is where many blogs go wrong – often you will see multiple posts covering the same area, usually short posts that lack real quality. My aim is to provide comprehensive posts, which cover everything in that one post, like the OptimizePress post which comes in at over 3,000 words and has 7 videos.
Once again, thank you so much for visiting the blog. Please keep in touch by signing up to the mailing list below, and connect with me via social media.
Until next time then…
All the best,
